Citizen Forester

Are you interested in creating a greener City of Phoenix? In 2010 The City of Phoenix adopted the Tree and Shade Master Plan that laid out the vision of a healthier, more livable and prosperous Phoenix through the investment in the urban forest. Volunteer as a Citizen Forester and become a tree advocate for your community. Citizen Foresters educate the community on the importance of trees while providing assistance for the proper planting and care of the trees throughout the city.

Available Level One Classes are listed below.

    Youth (ages 17 and under), Adult (18 - 64), Older Adult (65+), Families

Volunteers 15 and under, must register with a parent. Volunteers must be comfortable with 2 hour classroom style learning environment, and capable of utilizing shovels and digging holes.

Opportunity Schedule

Level 1 Citizen Forester Training: Classroom style presentation by the city arborist on the value and benefits of trees, basic tree anatomy, as well as site and species selection. Workshop is concluded with a hands on proper tree planting.
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Maryvale Community Center Auditorium, South side of the building. Follow the signs.

Notes: Please remember: We will be planting a tree! Wear closed toe shoes and sun protective outerwear. Don't forget to stay hydrated, bring a water bottle!
